New Wall Hanging for Kirkpatrick-Durham Church

The Congregational Board approved a proposal that an alternative Wall Hanging above the Communion Table be made .

Glenis McCreadie  offered to work on this and has now provided us with this colourful and imaginative idea of her progress. she writes

"The panel WE ARE WALKING IN THE LIGHT OF GOD depicts a present day group of people assembling for a journey. The panel is in mixed media, using a variety of fabrics, silks, velvet, cottons and hand dyed scrims. Some wool fibres and paints will also be used.

The figures are worked using appliqué, with detail in black thread using a free machining technique---the machine foot is removed and the section to be embroidered is moved beneath the needle to draw the detail and outline.

The background of a countryside scene of fields and mountains will be constructed using overlapping fabrics with machine and hand embroidery, to create texture.   A friend has offered me the use of her embellishing machine with which I can lay down wool fibres to create a painted look to the background   Watch this space!!  Glenis "

All the figures are now more or less finished in the chosen fabrics and colours. The individual segments of the background are now ready for detailed hand embroidery to bring them to life.  The figures and segments are now in their proposed positions but not yet attached.
