Concert at Kirkpatrick-Durham Church Saturday September 26th

The concert was held in aid of the Car Park Fund and raised £839.

The Church was packed to capacity and not just by friends and family of the performers.

The audience was appreciative and well behaved, perhaps because the first act  The Wanted featured three   policemen in the talented four man band. There was some expert guitar playing and fine singing, any deficiencies being made up for in decibels. The Mysterious Five somehow translated into the mysterious six. As winners of the KPD has got talent competition they were a popular choice and their manual dexterity with the Diablos was greatly admired.

Nicola and Blackie produced a polished performance of songs composed and arranged by Nicola from the poems of Hugh McDiarmid. This can only have boosted the sale of her new CD.

The sound system and skilful colour lighting were the work of Blackie who transformed the Church into a magical auditorium. Much of the music was organised and  arranged by Jonnie Dowswell. John Higgs gave an interesting and often amusing introduction to the musical items for the Quartet

The Vintage Quartet put in one of their rare public performances and apart from some ragged sections in the incantation from the Gordon Jacob suite,  played well enough to draw warm applause from a discerning audience

After the interval during which wine, orange juice and nibbles were served  our talented Minister Sally Marsh and skilled accompanist Susan Smith gave a moving performance of Gabriel's Oboe.

They then joined the quartet for Handel's Water music a Bach Cantata and then Daisy Bell which an eager audience was quick to join in with some enthusiastic community singing.

Finally  everyone joined in with the Kletsmer music which was very popular and called for a final encore.

Fiona McCormick compered the evening impeccably and a  comprehensive vote of thanks was proposed by Deirdre Cusack

The tickets and programme were beautifully designed by Mary Burney and the posters by Blackie
