Kirkpatrick-Durham Guild organised a great occasion for party goers of all ages on Saturday February 6th in the Village Hall. Despite a very cold evening outside there was a turnout of over 50 adults and 12 children.
Mary Burney was excellent at masterminding the Scottish country dancing and under her influence there was no hesitation amongst adults or children in joining in the fun. Jan introduced the performers with sensitivity and charm.
After the first 2 dances Niamh(6) was the first to recite. Two tales, one of the Crocodile followed by the little Red Motor Car This was a confident and amusing act recited in the Doric. It justly drew much applause.
After some strenuous dances, greatly enjoyed especially by the Chipperkyle and Croys group .we had a star performance from 2 youngsters Kirsty(6) and Keira(6) who demonstrated the correct way to dance. Dressed in the kilt they gave a sparkling display of Highland Dancing to great applause.
Bill sang Scotland Yet and Bonnie Mary of Argyll. His powerful voice easily filling the hall but leaving accompanist Eileen guessing from time to time.
Margaret gave two recitations in her own inimitable and amusing fashion. they were That's You and Kate o Shanter. While a little disorganised at times there was no doubt about their charm or the enthusiasm with which her performance was received
Bill repeated Bonnie Mary of Argyll while the merry company was recovering from Mary's insistence on her athletic version of the Virginia Reel.
The Guild provided a wonderful supper which was greatly appreciated and much needed to replace all the energy the participants had dissipated in all their activities.
The takings were over £300 which will go to support Guild projects home and abroad.
