Twinning Service and Lunch

On Sunday 28th February we were delighted to host  a visit from Elijah Obinna, his wife Favour and son Finlay.

Elijah is from Amasiri Junction and is the brother of Vincent our primary contact in Nigeria.  The service was

conducted Jointly by Sally our Minister and Elijah, an ordained minister of the Presbyterian church of Nigeria.

Favour, Elijah's wife taught us some Nigerian Hymns, which  she sang beautifully with  infectious enthusiasm

cajoling the 40 odd adults out of their usual Sunday reverie into a new style and language of singing.

This was not altogether successful and  I suspect  they will need to be persuaded to return many times before we

can rival our twinning partners in the exuberance and quality of their Hymn singing.

After Elijah preached the sermon he gave an informal and interesting talk about Amasiri. Finlay meanwhile

contributed a lively and entertaining discourse from the back.

We then sat down to a soup and sweet lunch with several choices of each. The food was delicious.

Conversation was hearty and everyone had a good opportunity to speak to our guests about their interesting

experiences both abroad and in their last  three years in Edinburgh. David and Jan Wishart masterminded the

visit impeccably and richly  deserve our thanks.

Following the recent presidential elections in Nigeria, there has been much rioting in he north of the country.

Although not directly affecting Ebonyi State, Vincent tells us "Many lives have been wasted and property lost"

He asks us to continue to pray for his Church and Nation.
